Review of SAIs Strategy Plans Meeting

Nineteen SAIs from CAROSAI and AFROSAI E were ready to engage with their key stakeholders in order to achieve greater audit impact as well as enhance their operational independence.

This review meeting for the stakeholder strategy plans for SAIs in Caribbean Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (CAROSAI) and African Organisation of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E) was held in South Africa from 12-16 March 2018. The meeting was hosted by AFROSAI-E Secretariat where a total of 37 participants and 6 Resource persons took part in this review meeting.

The objective of this meeting was to achieve “greater audit impact through enhanced stakeholder engagement”. Stakeholder engagement is a critical part of the audit processes and it is important to assisting the SAI achieving its greater independence as prescribed in the Lima and Mexico declarations. The SAI teams from CAROSAI came from Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Curacao, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and Grenadines and Suriname. The AFROSAI-E team was from Malawi, Liberia, Ghana, Botswana, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Kenya and South Africa. There were 8 resource persons from AFROSAI-E, Samoa Island, Philippines, Jamaica, Kenya and Sierra Leone took part in the reviews. A total of 19 Strategy Plans were reviewed where the reviews involved getting feedback from peer SAIs and Resource persons. Bringing together SAIs across the region presented a greater learning opportunity for the SAIs to share their practices across the INTOSAI Regions. The SAIs are now expected to have their Strategy Plans approved by the Heads of SAIs. Based on the approved Plans, the IDI in together with other interested stakeholders will design some mechanisms on what support to provide at SAI level which will be dependent on the Strategy Plans as well as SAI readiness to engage.
